GOP national delegate steps down in protest of Trump

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An Indiana delegate to the Republican national convention says he won’t attend the summer gathering because he refuses to participate in the “coronation” of presumptive nominee Donald Trump.

Delegate Josh Claybourn told the AP that he thinks Trump “peddles fear and mean-spirited insults” and lacks the “mature temperament” needed to be president. The Evansville lawyer says he is stepping down as a delegate.

Indiana GOP officials are meeting this weekend to discuss the convention. Party rules call for an alternate delegate to take Claybourn’s place.

Claybourn says he has received encouragement and support from other party leaders. It is unclear if other delegates may follow suit.
