STEVENSVILLE, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State Police say a trucker drove recklessly for nearly 50 miles in two states before a trooper slowed the vehicle down with a gunshot at a tire.

The Kalamazoo Gazette says Indiana authorities started getting calls Friday morning as the truck traveled east on Interstate 94 near Portage, Indiana. There were reports of the semi-truck striking cars and orange barrels but no injuries were reported.

The truck entered southwestern Michigan, and police warned construction crews to leave. Shawn Martin, the police chief in Baroda-Lake Township, says he took a dive over a cable barrier to avoid the truck. The truck finally stopped in Stevensville.

The California man’s name wasn’t released. He was taken to a hospital in St. Joseph, Mich.
