After 31 years, Honkers is closing for good in July.

Jeff Nickerson, who owns Honkers, told the South Bend Tribune that his restaurant struggled through the Great Recession and simply can’t compete with the many other family dining restaurants in Mishawaka, especially those that have specialties.

Plus, the building at 211 E. Day Road was put on sale in 2014 when the Honkers in downtown South Bend closed. There’s now a promising buyer.

Honkers is expected to close July 5. The catering side of the business will also close.

Find out more about the potential buyer for the land at 211 E. Day Road in the story from the South Bend Tribune.
