INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Gov. Mike Pence has directed flags at Indiana facilities statewide to be flown at half-staff beginning immediately to honor the five police officers shot and killed in Dallas.

Pence said in a news release that flags should be flown at half-staff until sunset on Tuesday and asked businesses and residents to lower their flags to half-staff to honor the service and sacrifice of the five slain law enforcement officers.

“In the wake of this tragedy, we must be clear that violence and threats against law enforcement officers will never be tolerated and ensure that our police have the training and resources to defend themselves as they defend our communities,” Pence said in a statement following the Dallas shooting.

He said he was issuing the directive in accordance with a similar federal proclamation by President Barack Obama.
