The body of a 14-year-old boy was pulled from Lake Michigan in Michigan City. It happened just after 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 8.

The victim, identified as Mensha Travis of Michigan City, was with another boy swimming in the lake near the pier when he began having trouble. The other boy tried swimming to help him and began having trouble, as well, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

The second boy was able to swim to a rock wall, but Travis went under, ABC 57 reported.

Crews from the Michigan City Fire Department, Michigan City Dive Team, U.S. Coast Guard and Conservation officers assisted with the search.

Travis’s body was pulled from the water less than an hour later.
