4 foot lizard captured at Indiana National Guard Armory in Elkhart

A four-foot long lizard was captured by Elkhart Police Department animal control officers at the Indiana National Guard Armory.

Officers were sent to the armory in the 2300 block of Oakland Avenue around 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10 after receiving a report about a large lizard seen wandering in the parking lot.

Officers arrived and captured the Asian Water Monitor. The reptile was taken to the Elkhart County Humane Society.

The Humane Society will make arrangements to have the lizard placed in a zoo or another proper facility.

Police believe the lizard escaped from a nearby residence.
