Fight leads to gunshots, injury in Elkhart

One person was injured during a shooting in Elkhart.

Police were sent to the area of Pennsylvania Avenue and Waurika Street on just before 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12.

Once on scene, police were told the person injured was at Elkhart General Hospital.

The gunfire was the result of a fight, according to Sgt. Chris Snyder with the Elkhart Police Department.

During the argument, one of the people involved drove away and another person fired shots at the vehicle. A male riding in the vehicle was shot and suffered a minor laceration on the back of his head, Snyder stated.

The vehicle was also damaged by the gunfire.

Officers collected several shell casings from the scene.

The case remains under investigation.
