Several area fire departments had their hands full Monday morning with a house fire near Wanatah.
A passerby reported the fire at around 6:30 a.m. Monday on the 14000 block of S. CR. 1050 W, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.
Firefighters first fought through the smoke to try and find someone they thought may have been inside. Luckily, no one was home in spite of a vehicle being parked in the driveway, and no firefighters were reported hurt. It’s believed the owner was out of town for work, according to sheriff’s deputies.
Six area fire departments eventually arrived to fight the smoky and fiery blaze, including the fire departments at Cass-Clinton, LaCrosse, Hanna, Westville, Morgan and Kouts.
The fire appears to have started in the attic. The house suffered heavy smoke and water damage. It doesn’t appear to be suspicious, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.
