Purdue reports record enrollment at West Lafayette campus

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue University says it has set an enrollment record with more than 40,000 students at its main campus in West Lafayette.

Purdue’s announcement comes after Indiana University reported a record mark of some 43,200 students enrolled at its Bloomington campus for the fall semester.

Purdue officials say 40,451 students arrived on campus, up 1,042 from last year. The school says this year’s freshman class is larger than projected because more students took up Purdue’s acceptance offers than anticipated.

The West Lafayette campus includes about 30,000 undergraduate students. Purdue says 53 percent of undergraduates are from Indiana, 30 percent from other states and 17 percent are international students.
