Motorcyclist hospitalized after distracted driver hits him near Middlebury

A man riding a motorcycle ended up in a Fort Wayne hospital after a distracted driver hit him from behind.

The crash happened about 2 p.m. Thursday on westbound U.S. 20 at C.R. 33 west of Middlebury, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

The man on the motorcycle was stopped at the intersection. A driver from Goshen was looking at his phone and didn’t stop for the motorcyclist, hitting him.

The victim suffered facial fractures and lacerations throughout his body. He had to be flown to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

No tickets were given at the time of the crash, which is still under investigation.
