Elkhart man killed while walking on road in Elkhart County

Police are investigating why a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday morning.

The collision happened at about 4:30 a.m. Monday in the 51000 block of C.R. 5 near C.R. 2, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Deapartment.

The victim has been identified as Eric Pendleton, 32, of Elkhart. Police say he was walking southbound on C.R. 5 when he was hit by a vehicle. After he landed in the northbound lane, another vehicle hit him and drove off.

Pendleton was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the southbound vehicle stayed at the scene. He suffered minor lacerations.
