Man killed in train vs truck collision in Mentone

A man was killed when a truck collided with a train in Mentone.

It happened around 7:25 p.m. on on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at the railroad crossing near the intersection of State Road 25 and State Road 19.

The driver of the vehicle had attempted to turn south onto State Road 19 from State Road 25, when his pickup truck went off the paved portion of the crossing and became stuck on the train track rails. The pickup truck was then struck by an eastbound Norfolk Southern freight train and the driver was killed, according to the Kosciusko County F.A.C.T. team.

The Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office identified the victim Thursdsay as 40-year-old Joseph Kimmel of Akron, Indiana.
