Formal murder charges have been filed in the tragic beating death of a 2-year-old girl in Warsaw.

Court documents filed in Kosciusko County Circuit Court also detail what led to 29-year-old Christopher Grimmett’s arrest.

The Koscisuko County Sheriff’s Department found the body of Adalin Stamper behind a home in Warsaw, and arrested Grimmett Friday morning. He’s the boyfriend of the child’s mother.

Deputies first investigated Grimmett after being told the child had gone missing. He allegedly told them he dropped the girl off with her grandmother. However, she was able to prove she was nowhere near Warsaw at the time. Police searched Grimmett’s brother’s home and found a “substantial” amount of blood, which led to them checking the backyard, and finding a shallow grave.

Police say Grimmett admitted to beating the child to death with his hands. He’s currently being held in the Kosciusko County Jail.
