South Bend mother arrested from January shooting that injured 2-year-old son

The mother of a 2-year-old boy who was shot in January has been indicted by a grand jury.

19-year-old Hope Magiera is charged with one count of neglect of a dependent and one count of possession of marijuana, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

The shooting happened Jan. 23 at a home on the 2700 block of E. Edison Rd. in South Bend. The boy got a hold of a gun and accidentally shot himself, according to the South Bend Tribune.

A warrant was issued for Margiera’s arrest after the indictment. She’s being held on $50,000 bond. She’ll next be in court on Nov. 30.
