A plea deal gets a Mishawaka man a decade in federal prison.

Jesus C. Madrigal, 25, agreed to plead guilty in the summer to possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

A federal judge sentenced Madrigal Tuesday. Madrigal admitted to firing a gun at “would-be” robbers in an attempt to protect narcotics that he had at his home, according to court documents.

South Bend police were joined by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in investigating the case.
