Car thefts are always on the rise during this time of the year, but there was a strange cluster of them Thursday in the space of one hour.

No less than eight cars were reported stolen around South Bend, according to the South Bend Police Department and ABC 57.

Often, the first real bite of cold weather causes you to start your car and let it warm up while you head back in to finish getting ready for work. And during that time, your running car is a very tempting target for car thieves.

All of the cars were running, unattended, and unlocked. Police say a couple of those cars were found abandoned later with little or no damage.

Police suggest getting a remote starter for so you can safely warm up your car during winter.
