Investigators looking into Wednesday afternoon’s fatal crash on Grape Rd. between Edison and Douglas Rds. say alcohol played a factor in it.

The Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) has identified the driver who died in the crash as 53-year-old Randy Boyd of Mishawaka.

Investigators say Boyd allegedly crossed the center line, sideswiped a northbound vehicle, and hit another vehicle head-on. Boyd died at a local hospital.

The driver of the car that was sideswiped, a 29-year-old Osceola woman, suffered minor injuries. The woman whose car was hit head-on, a 66-year-old from South Bend, suffered a broken ankle. Boyd’s passenger, a 35-year-old man from South Bend, was knocked unconscious, but is expected to make a full recovery.

FACT investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, though the investigation still remains active.
