The coaching staff surrounding Brian Kelly will look different next season at Notre Dame, and one of the first pieces may be on his way.
Wake Forest defensive coordinator Mike Elko will be named Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator soon, according to multiple reports from the likes of Sports Illustrated and Fox Sports.
Elko’s defense at Wake Forest ranked in the top 20 in scoring this past season. Despite having one of the worst offenses in football, Wake Forest still managed a 6-6 record thanks to their defense.
Elko’s hire comes after a tumultuous week where offensive coordinator Mike Sanford took the head coaching job at Western Kentucky and special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Scott Booker was fired.
Elko is expected to get a three year deal, according to those reports.
