Local unemployment numbers stay steady for the most part

While Indiana’s unemployment rate, as a whole, went down in the latest report, the local jobless rate told a slightly different story.

St. Joseph County’s unemployment rate remained steady, as 4.2 percent, which is also the statewide average.

In Elkhart County, the rate went up one-tenth of a percent to 3.3 percent, which is still well below the statewide average, not to mention the national average of 4.6 percent.

Indiana’s unemployment rate has dropped 4.2 percentage points since January 2013, surpassing the national decline of 3.4 percentage points.
