Women killed in crash north of Galien, Mich. have been identified

Two people were killed and four others were injured in a crash north of Galien, Mich.

It happened just after 4 p.m. on Monday afternoon, Dec. 26.

The preliminary Investigation shows that a 2014 Chevrolet sedan, which was occupied by five of the individuals was traveling eastbound on Warren Woods Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Cleveland Road and was struck by a south-bound 2001 Dodge pick-up, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

The driver of the 2014 Chevrolet was a 66 year old male from Howard Township. He was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with life threatening injuries, the sheriff’s department stated.

A 66 year old woman who was the front seat passenger in the 2014 Chevrolet was taken to Memorial Hospital with internal injuries and a possible head injury.

A male subject, who was a back seat passenger in the 2014 Chevrolet was also taken to Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Two women riding in the Chevrolet, Bre Anne Sutherland, 37, and her sister, Laurel Ashley Sutherland, 41, both of Chicago,  died at the scene.

 

A 51 year old woman from the Galien area was the operator and sole occupant of the 2001 Dodge pick-up truck. She was taken to Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It does not appear as if weather or road conditions played a factor in this traffic collision, according to the sheriff’s department.

The crash is still under investigation.
