VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — A Porter County woman convicted of stealing more than $30,000 while working for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County will serve no prison time.
A Porter Circuit Court judge sentenced 49-year-old Mary Loveless to nearly six years Wednesday, but suspended all but the one day she had served.
The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports the judge gave Loveless probation in the hopes that she will be able to pay back the nearly $33,000 she allegedly stole.
A jury convicted Loveless in October of three counts of theft. She maintains her innocence.
Loveless allegedly stole the money between January 2012 and April 2014 while serving the unit director for the group’s Kidstop Program.
She was responsible for collecting and depositing payments made to the program that aids low-income children.
