UPDATE: Victim identified in fatal stabbing at Cassopolis plant

A fatal stabbing was reported Wednesday morning at a business in Cass County.

It happened just before 5:30 a.m. at Ameri-Kart on Grange Street in Cassopolis, according to a press release.

The stabbing was supposedly the result of an argument between coworkers a short time before a company safety meeting. The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Jan Carlos Velazques Mendez of Elkhart. He was pronounced dead at the scene after being stabbed in the neck.

The suspect, a 23-year-old man from Elkhart, was taken into custody and is in the Cass County Jail. Police are not releasing his name until charges are filed.

Ameri-Kart is a custom molding plant.
