A scary scene in LaPorte as people dining at a restaurant ended up face-down on the ground because of an armed robber.

It happened at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Blacksmith Shop in Rolling Prairie, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department.

Officers say a white man walked in through a side door, showed a handgun, and forced employees and customers to lay on the floor. Cash was taken from the register and the man left the way he came. No one was hurt, and no one saw if the man had a vehicle, according to police.

The suspect is described as being in the late 20s or early 30s, stands about 6’2 and has a bigger build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, camo scarf that covered his face, gray pants and black gloves.

If you know who robbed the Blacksmith Shop, contact the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office at (219) 326-7700.
