Former DNC Chairman endorses South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg has picked up a powerful endorsement in his attempt to become the next National Chair of the Democratic Party.

Former DNC Chairman Steve Grossman is endorsing Buttigieg, which could help the mayor separate himself in pack of underdog candidates vying for attention amid the better known names vying for the job, according to NBC News.

In a letter Thursday Grossman, who had the job under Bill Clinton from 1997 to 1999, said Buttigieg was capable of transforming the DNC “through the power of his ideas and his ability to execute an ambitious plan.” He also cited the importance of the party finding young leadership such as the mayor.

The DNC will elect a new chairman during a meeting in Atlanta on Feb. 24.
