Police crackdown on traffic safety near Elkhart County school zones

Officers from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department organized a traffic safety detail focused around three area high schools last week.

On the mornings of Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday officers patrolled the areas of Jimtown, Fairfield, and Concord, according to a sheriff’s department news release.

An average of five officers from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department as well as the Indiana State Police focused on a different school each morning, yielding the following results:

Jimtown Schools – Wednesday, February 15, 2017

  • 10 seat belt or child restraint violations
  • 1 driving while license suspended-infraction
  • 1 warrant arrest

Fairfield Jr/Sr High- Thursday, February 16, 2017

  • 4 seat belt or child restraint violations
  • 2 miscellaneous warnings
  • 1 speeding citation

Concord HS – Friday, February 17, 2017

  • 15 seat belt or child restraint violations
  • 1 conditional license violation for a minor on a cell phone
  • 1 cite and release for Never Receiving a License
  • 1 driving while license suspended-infraction
