South Bend residents raise concerns over proposed townhouses near Notre Dame

(95.3 MNC)

Neighbors who are concerned about a new townhouse development had their first chance to be heard Wednesday night in South Bend.

The First Church of Christ in South Bend would be replaced by 39 townhomes, according to WSBT.

The proposed site would be off Ironwood Drive near the Notre Dame campus, and the homes built there would cost around $275,000 to $300,000.

The developer, Patrick Matthews, says they want to be good neighbors and hope empty-nesters will buy the homes. But the primary concern expressed by the neighbors at the meeting was that they will attract students.

A hearing is planned for April 18 at the County-City building and will be open to the public.
