Suspect arrested after convenience store worker assaulted during robbery

An  Elkhart man was arrested on preliminary robbery charges after he allegedly robbed a clerk in the 7-Eleven store at 2700 South Main Street.

The robbery happened just after 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, according to Elkhart Police.

The store worker told investigators she found the suspect, identified as Deuntay Pratcher, 31, in a storage area and confronted him. While arguing with the clerk, he walked into an office, grabbed the clerk’s purse and removed the wallet, Elkhart Police reported.

As Pratcher attempted to run out of the office the clerk grabbed him, and Pratcher kicked and stomped on the her head. Pratcher then took off, Elkhart Police reported.

Police found the clerk’s wallet in the parking lot. The clerk was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.

Officers found Pratcher in the 200 block of East Bristol Street and took him into custody.
