A case that went cold for over four years is now closed.

25-year-old Dionte Jarrell Calhoun pleaded guilty Thursday to a Voluntary Manslaughter charge, which is a Class B felony that carries a maximum 20 years in prison.

Calhoun shot Bernard Vaughn to death in July 2010 at his home in the 1000 block of Mayflower Road. Calhoun wasn’t located until he was found in Chicago in January 2015, about four and a half years later.

He had a jury trial in November 2016 on his murder charge, but it resulted in a hung jury. Many jurors weren’t convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that Calhoun committed a murder.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office reviewed the evidence and information again and came back with a charge of Voluntary Manslaughter. The prosecutor’s office says they didn’t offer the plea deal to Calhoun lightly, even consulting with Vaughn’s family beforehand.

Calhoun will be sentenced on June 14.
