An Elkhart woman allegedly lied about her living and financial situation for four years, and those lies apparently paid off for her.

41-year-old Rachel Magyar obtained almost $23,000 in funds from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) over the course of four years, according to the Elkhart Truth.

Court documents say Magyar claimed her family had fallen on hard times and she was struggling to feed her kids. She also claimed to be living separate from her husband. However, she’s seen in multiple Facebook photos “leading a normal lifestyle” with her husband and two children, according to court documents.

She reportedly confessed to lying on her application in a visit with an Indiana Family and Social Services Administration investigator in September 2016.

Magyar is charged with two felony welfare fraud charges. She’s facing up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

She was arrested in late April, but her husband posted a $1,000 cash surety bond later that day.

just one of thousands in our area scamming the system. What a piece of S*&^. Her low life husband should go to prison with her. That would be the only chance their children would have to grow up with morals.

Either way, they are living off the work of others. There should be zero tolerance for this, time to let them all go hungry, let them live with their relatives or get really thin. It is not my job to feed these leaches and watch them get fat off my work.

This is happing with hundreds of applicants on the rolls in Elkhart County at this moment. This one case is an effort to mitigate the rampant fraud in the system.

Funny they check her Facebook now… Why not do a financial check on all applicants and have all recipients that have it, waive their rights to financial checks when so needed by the the State or Local agencies that provide assistance. Have a random piss tests with one when applying.
