A South Bend man is accused of trying to take a child.

21-year-old Tyran Beckett was after allegedly kicking down the door of a home in the 800 block of East Calvert St, according to South Bend Police.

At about 11:30 p.m. Monday, officers got a report that Beckett had come to the home to take back his child. Beckett reportedly kicked in the front door, but two women inside the home were able to prevent Beckett from taking the child, according to police.

Instead, Beckett reportedly stole a vehicle, but was later caught, along with a juvenile in the passenger’s seat who was released by police.

Beckett has been charged with robbery.
