A train ran into a vehicle near Kingsford Heights Saturday night.

It happened on Range Road. A woman tried to cross the tracks after one train crossed, but a second train going 38 mph the other way clipped the rear of the vehicle.

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office says the injuries to both the 36-year-old Kingsford Heights mother and her 6-year-old child aren’t life-threatening and that both are in stable condition. At about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, the trains resumed running again and Range Road re-opened.

Two MedFlight helicopters were called to the scene to assist.
