Traffic stop leads to police chase in LaPorte, St. Joseph Counties

A traffic stop led to a pursuit of a suspect wanted on warrants for vehicle theft and probation violation out of Virginia.

The chase happened late Friday, June 9.

LaPorte County Sheriff’s deputy stopped the suspect, James Wright, 53, who allegedly gave officers a fake name, then drove off from the scene into St. Joseph County.

The vehicle pursuit reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour and ended along State Road 2 and Quince Road where the suspect ran off into a wooded area, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

Wright may have been picked up by an accomplice, the sheriff’s department reported.

Wright is described as a black and in his 50s. He last seen wearing a green t-shirt, ABC 57 reported.
