LaPorte officers looking for two men who brutalized a kitten

A female kitten in LaPorte was nearly stomped to death and police are asking for your help finding the two men who did it.

“Layla” was being attacked on July 6 when a man, who was on the way to Stone Lake Beach, saw the attack happen. He told the South Bend Tribune that he yelled at the men, believed to be in their early 20s. They got into a car and drove away.

No arrests have yet been made.

The kitten, who the man says was “flopping around in the front yard” was fighting for her life at the LaPorte County Small Animal Shelter. She had a hard time breathing and had to be fed fluids and medication via IV treatment.

A few days later, she appears to be recovering. A receptionist at the shelter says she’s feisty and very playful now. A veterinarian at the shelter believes Layla’s flexibility in her bones from being so young might not have just saved her from more serious injuries, but also saved her life.

No one has claimed ownership of the kitten. Once the OK is given from the LaPorte Police Department, she’ll be adopted to a loving home.
