At approximately 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, a body was recovered in the river near 11000 block of Lakshore Dr. in St. Joseph County.
Indiana Conservation Officers were on-scene and Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department officers responded to assist in identifying the body as Roberto Vasquez, 53, who had been reported as missing this past Thursday.
Prior to Vasquez being located, officers from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, and the Baugo Fire Department spend hours searching the river using sonar, underwater apparatuses and dive teams in attempts to locate him.

The Elkhart County sheriff’s Department is seeking the public’s help in locating a 53 year old male who was reported as missing. Roberto Vazquez was last seen between 4:00 and 4:30 am on Thursday, July 13, 2017.
At approximately 6:24am on Thursday, July 13, 2017, Roberto’s abandoned vehicle was found parked on the east side of a bridge over the St Joe River on Ash Rd, north of CR 16. Since this time, officers from the Department of Natural Resources, St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, and Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department have worked together and conducted several thorough searches of the river, but were unable to locate Roberto Vazquez.
