5-year-old girl killed by hit and run driver in Michigan City

Police in Michigan City are looking for the driver who hit and killed a 5-year-old girl, then drove off.

Michigan City police say Delaney Klewer was struck shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday as she was trying to cross the 300 block of Broadway Street with her sister. She later died at St. Anthony Hospital.

Police are looking for a black or dark grey SUV that may have had a spare tire mounted on the rear.

The Michigan City Police Department is urging anyone with information on this crime to contact Lt. Jeff Loniewski at 219-874-3221 Ext. 1008 or Cpl. Steve Alt at Ext. 1045.

2:40 p.m. update: Michigan City police have released a possible photo of the vehicle involved in the collision.
