Starke County woman accused of locking stepdaughter in wooden box killed in crash

A crash in Starke County has claimed the lives of two people including a woman who’s accused of locking her 3-year-old stepdaughter in a wooden box.

The collision happened around 6:30 a.m. Monday on County Road 300 North near County Road 1100 East.

The woman accused of locking her stepdaughter in a box was one of two people killed in the crash. Donna Short, who was charged with child neglect back in January, lost her life, along with another passenger.

Three others were wounded and taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment.
