Early morning shooting in South Bend leaves 9-year-old boy injured

Police in South Bend are investigating a shooting early this morning that left a 9-year-old child injured.

Officers say it happened shortly after 1 a.m. on the 1900 block of North Brookfield  St., which is near West Hamilton Street.

A person or a group of people fired shots at a house, hitting the boy in the ankle in the process while he slept on a couch, according to police. He was taken to a local hospital, where he’s expected to recover.

No arrests have yet been made.
