LaPorte man facing multiple charges after crashing into business, then trying to flee

The $35,000 in damage that a 21-year-old LaPorte man allegedly caused at a business was just the start of his troubles Friday night.

LaPorte city police say the unidentified man crashed into the AA Rain Tite Roofing business on First Street in LaPorte. A garage door, large staircase and roofing items were just some of the damaged or destroyed items in the business.

But police say he wasn’t done. The man panicked and tried to drive away. Officers say he nearly caused a head-on crash, ran into a homeowner’s fence, hit a stop sign, and possibly some small trees. In the end, it was a fire hydrant at Kentucky Street and Upper Lake Shore Drive that stopped his alleged panicked ride of terror.

When it was all said and done, the man allegedly caused a total of $42,000 worth of damage.

It will be interesting to see if he’s ever held a drivers license…and is in this country legally.
