Elkhart set to host national softball championship for second consecutive year

A home run event for Elkhart will return to Riverview Park Softball Complex next week as the part is set to host the USA Softball Fast Pitch Men’s Open East National Championships.

It’s the second consecutive year that the city will host the tournament, which starts on Friday, Aug. 25.

Mayor Tim Neese says the event will contribute to the local economy, through hotel stays, gasoline and food sales.

The cost to attend is $15 for a weekend pass or $8 per day. Games will begin Friday, at 11 a.m. and continue through Sunday. Advance purchases can be made by calling 596-3036. Tickets will also be available at the games.

Twelve teams have already signed up, and several others have verbally committed to the tournament. Any teams still wishing to register can do so online.
