The unemployment rate in both St. Joseph and Elkhart Counties edged up, a bit, according to the latest figures from July.
In St. Joseph County, the jobless rate is up 4-tenths of a point to 3.6-percent. In Elkhart County, it’s up 2-tenths of a percent to 2.3-percent. Both figures are still well below last year’s rates at this time.
The jobless rate in Kosciusko County is up 3-tenths of a point to 2.7-7 percent, but that’s still a full point below this time last year. The rates in the surrounding counties of Whitley, Noble, Marshall and Wabash are also up.
The statewide average is 3.1 percent.
Still, the commissioner of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development says Indiana’s unemployment rate continues to be both at near-record lows, and that rates are merely a reflection of the state’s constricting labor market.

This is a perfect example of why you cant believe any poll or statistic that is put out there. We have companies moving because they can not hire enough people for the jobs that are available. The real statistic is that unemployment is at 0% but laziness and socialism (welfare) has 3.6% of the people not working. I wonder if these people would go to work if we stopped feeding them and providing housing for free? We will never know will we!
I do wish we would find out though…
