One of Notre Dame‘s biggest advocates is being laid to rest Friday morning.

Robert Wilmouth passed away last Thursday at the age of 88.

He was an emeritus member of the University of Notre Dame’s Board of Trustees. He joined the board in 1975, serving for over 40 years on it. This, after getting his master’s degree from Notre Dame and working in the banking industry for 27 years.

He also served as chairman of the Badin Guild from 1992 to 1999 and established the Wilmouth Library Endowment, which provided funding for a variety of University initiatives.

Visitation is taking place Thursday afternoon from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home in Palatine, Illinois. It will continue Friday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., followed at 10 a.m. by a funeral Mass at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Palatine.
