A 13-year-old Elkhart boy was pronounced dead after he was pulled from Lake Wawasee.

Just before 12 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, the boy’s mother, 43, of Elkhart, went to check on her son who had gone to bed at a home in the 10000 block of N. Southshore Drive in Syracuse. The woman was unable to locate her son around 11:55 p.m. and asked her husband for help, according the a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

The husband checked the area on foot while his wife checked the house. The husband then checked the pier located at the residence. After searching for roughly thirty minutes the husband was able to find his son submerged in the water near the home, according to the news release.

Local agencies performed CPR and life saving techniques, but were unable to revive the juvenile.
