South Bend child recovering after getting hit by pickup truck

A child was hit by a car in South Bend Thursday morning.

It happened at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of South and Carroll Streets. Police say a two-year-old boy darted into the road and was hit by a pickup truck.

Instead of stopping, the driver drove away from the scene.

The boy’s aunt says the child ran to the street to retrieve a toy and, even though the pickup driver did hit the brakes, it was too late and the boy was hit. The child suffered minor injuries and was checked out at a local hospital.

Police are looking for the suspect, described as a bald black male in his 50’s driving a full size white pickup truck. If you have any information, you are asked to contact police or CrimeStoppers.
