UPDATE: A man is in custody after a two-hour standoff between him and SWAT officers in northern Clay Township.

Officers went to a home in the State Line/Ironwood Roads area to talk to a person of interest in a shots fired case shortly before noon Wednesday. Officers believe the man may have had a high-powered rifle at the time of the shots fired report.

St. Joseph County Police Assistant Chief Bill Thompson says that the man refused to come out. Explosions could be heard nearby, which officers say was percussion grenades. Thompson also says officers tried to contact the man via phone and loudspeaker to no response.

Eventually, officers went in the home and found the suspect in the basement. He was taken into custody. No injuries were reported. Charges are pending for the suspect.
