The 2018 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project for the Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County has received a big financial boost.

The President of the Regional Chamber of Commerce, officials from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood and other regional leaders were on hand, Tuesday, Oct. 24, when officials with KeyBank presented the local Habitat for Humanity with a check for half a million dollars.

“This is an amazing gift,” said Jim Williams, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County. “We’re very grateful to Mike and KeyBank for their support, which includes volunteers who will help during the Carter Work Project. Not only are we building an entire neighborhood in Mishawaka through this project, we’re also working on 17 homes in the city of South Bend. Support like KeyBank’s is vital to making it all work.”

The project will take place from Aug. 26-31, 2018. Thousands of volunteers will participate in the projects, including the Carters themselves, country superstars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, and other notable names.

The houses aren’t free, but people seeking to own one of them can apply with the local Habitat For Humanity office.
