A Cassopolis man has been charged almost a year after a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run in Elkhart County.
23-year-old Ryan Hawkins is charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident afer being arrested on a warrant earlier this month. The hit-and-run happened on Dec. 22, 2016 on C.R. 11 near Aqua Drive just south of the Michigan-Indiana border.
Hawkins is accused of killing 51-year-old Timothy Mabry of Edwardsburg as he drove in a high rate of speed. A witness says he didn’t slow down before or after the crash happened. In fact, that witness claims Hawkins actually sped up before the crash.
He pleaded not guilty this week and posted bond to be released from Elkhart County jail.

Victim Maybre was a excellent friend. Out of Navy into a crappy job he discovered company was taken money out of his check for medical coverage but he could not get medical apointment. Avery had to tell his job that’s insurence fraud. Wish he could of been working at a better company he might still be alive walking a different direction or a ride from someone. Hope the dirt bag that killed him get hits by a car someday to see what it felt like ..careless driver probly had many victims. Maybre loved his family.
