New Prairie students get Monday off due to power outage

New Prairie United Schools made the decision to close for the day Monday morning.

This was due to a widespread power outage that impacted about 2,000 customers in the New Carlisle and Rolling Prairie area. The outage struck shortly after 7 a.m. and the decision to close the schools came at 8:45 a.m.

Students already at the schools were sent home. Indiana Michigan Power said the outage was due to a subtransmission line problem and about 540 outages due to a car accident near Mishawaka.

Power was expected to be restored by noon Monday.
