A Mishawaka man who locked a child in a closet and another in a homemade cage has been sentenced to prison.

34-year-old Nick Matney was given a four year prison term this week after being found guilty of neglect of a dependent and criminal confinement. Four other charges were dismissed.

Matney was arrested in March 2016 after he was found be forcing a 6-year-old child to stay in a closet. The child was only allowed to get out of the closet to use the restroom.

A 5-year-old child was found in a crib with a baby gate placed on top of it and tied down. The child was also forced to wear a diaper so it wouldn’t be forced to go to the bathroom.
