Local health providers are among dozens of Indiana hospitals that are accused of falsifying records and receiving kickbacks…

The list of 62 hospitals in the state includes Memorial Hospital in South Bend and St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka and Plymouth.

The South Bend Tribune reports that the 62 hospitals are accused of systematically falsifying records and defrauding taxpayers out of hundreds of millions of dollars.

The suit, filed more than a year ago by a South Bend law firm, alleges the providers obtained federal grant money and kickbacks by overbilling for the release of electronic records.

St. Joseph Regional in Plymouth charged me $200 to release my children’s medical records to another provider. I refused to pay the outrageous amount, so they turned me over to a collection agency. Their over charging has now gone against my credit.
