LaPorte County officers investigating farm animal shootings

Standardbred Hunter

LaPorte County officers are investigating a case where two horses and a cow were shot at two farms in the Hudson Lake area.

Officers first went to a farm on Emery Road on Thanksgiving day, where the property owner told them his horse had a bullet wound to the right front leg and another that he’s boarding was injured in the left front leg.

The injuries aren’t life-threatening to the horses and the bullets actually don’t appear to bother them, according to police. A veterinarian says removing the bullets would be more dangerous than just leaving them.  The horses appear to have been hit by large caliber bullets.

Another property owner reported on social media that one of cows was shot, but no official report has been made to police yet.

If you have information on who shot the animals, contact LaPorte County Detective Sgt. Brian Piergelski at 219-326-7700 ext. 2539.
